Cocoa farmers ‘sit on a gold

Minister Poseci Bune on Thursday told Namau farmers in Naloto,
Tailevu, they were sitting on a gold mine.
Bune, who
was part of a group that included Interim Prime Minister Frank
Bainimarama, told the cocoa farmers and chocolate producers
they had a potential gold mine, provided they did the value
adding right.
Bainimarama commended the cocoa farmers
and told them government would support them. Located about
20 kilometres from Korovou Town, Namau Village is known for
its production of chocolate in parts of Tailevu
Province.
The success story of Namau cocoa farm is the
involvement of families, youths, men and women throughout the
process from growing cocoa plants, harvesting to the
production of chocolate.
Interim Local Government
Minister, Jone Navakamocea and ambassador designate to the
People’s Republic of China, Sir James Ah Koy were also part of
the group.
Sir James said he would request the Chinese
government for assistance once he took up his new
posting.
